The towns of Bergerac and Sainte Foy la Grande have been centres of the wine trade on the river Dordogne since medieval times. Both are about 20 kilometres from Sigoulès.

Within a 25 kilometres radius of Sigoulés there are many more chateaux and bastides (fortified towns) than one can explore in one holiday. The beautiful ancient wine town of Saint Emilion is less than an hour's drive away. Longer day trips can be taken to the upper reaches of the Dordogne and its famous old towns of Domme, Sarlat and Rocamadour or south to Cahors and the valley of the Lot.

The world of smart shopping, galleries and opera is just over an hour’s drive away in Bordeaux, as are the golden beaches and famous oyster beds of Arcachon.

Everyday shopping is an excursion in itself with daily markets in different towns waiting to be explored and bursting with local produce, colors, tastes and flavors.

Many outdoor recreations are catered for locally. There is a golf course of international repute close by at Chateau de Vigiers and there are several smaller courses in the district. Other sporting facilities include riding, canoeing on the Dordogne or the Veziers and tennis at Saussignac. Throughout the summer months walking, hiking and bike riding are favorite French past times.

Last but not least, there are the vineyards. Most vineyards welcome visitors to tastings on their premises. Sigoulès is in the centre of the world-renowned wineries of Monbaziallac, Saussignac, Bordeaux and Cahors.
